Qualifications of electors are outlined in Section 17 of the Municipal Elections Act (1996). 

A person is entitled to be an elector at an election held in a local municipality if, on voting day, he or she, 

1. resides in the local municipality or is the owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; 
2. is a Canadian citizen;
3. is at least 18 years old; and 
4. is not prohibited from voting under subsection (3) or otherwise by law.  

The Advanced Voting Period will begin on Friday, October 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Once the Advance Voting Period opens, voters will be able to cast their votes by internet or telephone.

What is a Voter Help Centre? 

A Voter Help Centre is a location established by the Town during an election to provide assistance to electors with voting related questions or issues.  The Voter Help Centre may assist electors with things such as: 

• confirming whether they are on the voters' list
• adding, correcting or removing their information from the voters' list
• confirming their voter eligibility
• obtaining assistance with the voting process
• providing information about when, where and how to vote
• assisting electors who have accessibility need

At the Regular Council Meeting held on November 10, 2025, the Council of the Town of Grand Valley Council passed By-law 2025-60 authorizing internet and telephone voting methods for the 2026 Elections.

To ensure your correct school board support designation is provided to Elections Ontario in time for the municipal and school board elections on October 26, 2026, it should be reviewed and, if needed, updated by June 1, 2026.

While Elections Ontario maintains the Permanent Register of Electors in Ontario for provincial, municipal and school board elections, Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is legislatively responsible for collecting school board support designation information.

What is School Board Support?

Whether you own or rent your home, your property is linked to a school board - even if you do not have children or your children are not currently attending school.  While you are not required to make a designation, you do have the option to choose which school board you support. If you do not make a choice, your support will default to the English-Public School Board.

By default, your school support is directed to the English-Public School Board unless you have chosen otherwise.  You may be eligible to support the English-Catholic, French-Public or French-Catholic.
