Grand Valley Community Celebrates the Expansion of the Grand Valley and District Community Centre

On Friday, March 6, 2026, the Grand Valley community gathered to celebrate the rehabilitation and expansion of the Grand Valley and District Community Centre. Funding partners from the Town of Grand Valley, the Township of Amaranth and the Township of East Garafraxa and representatives from the federal and provincial governments commemorated the improvements to the facility at 7:00p.m. The project was funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure stream. The federal government provided $1,147,500 and the government of Ontario provided $956,154. The three municipalities are funding the balance of the $6,000,000 project.

Starting in 2021, the Community Centre’s ice surface and boards have been replaced, new flooring replaced throughout the building, staff workspace has been restructured, and six brand new changerooms and accessible washrooms have been added to the north side of the building. The roof has been updated, the insulation and siding have been improved, referees have new changeroom space and a new pro shop has been added in partnership with a local business.

The Grand Opening event was followed by cake cutting and a free public skate with hot chocolate sponsored by the Community Centre.

“We are proud to support our growing communities and their needs for improved community infrastructure across Canada. The upgrades to the Grand Valley and District Community Centre have created a safer, more inclusive and inviting environment for community members to get active, celebrate special events and connect with others in the community.”

-           The Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada

“Our government is proud to support local infrastructure projects that lay the foundation for strong, resilient communities and make a real difference in people’s lives.
