A Message from Mayor Soloman to the Community of Grand Valley
I wish this was a usual Christmas Greeting to the Community however, we have received a distressing and disappointing reminder that we may be letting our guard down. Grand Valley seems to be winning a race we do not want to win. Grand Valley has seen an increase of 575% of COVID-19 cases during this second wave of the pandemic. The highest increase throughout Dufferin County has been in our Community.
This holiday season will be unlike any other, as it ends one of the most unusual years we have ever seen. Although we will be missing the usual family gatherings, Christmas parties and celebrations, it will be a welcome time to pause, take time to remember the special joy of past holidays, and to rebuild reserves of resiliency heading into the new year. 2020 has been, for many, a long and tiring year, bringing new worries and many challenges into our lives. It also showed us how strong and caring our community is. How steadfast we can be to keep our family and friends safe and well, and how creativity and determination can help us connect with loved ones, take care of our own health, and support our neighbours in the community.
The holiday season is a time to give thanks to all of those who make our community such a great place to live, work and play. Show your support by staying home this holiday and connecting virtually. Remember this is not over but there is light at the end of the tunnel. We will get through this together by staying apart.
Stay home, stay safe and Happy Holidays to all!
